Greetings from the Paytons:
Hi, my name is Marilyn and I would like to invite you to The Mitchell House in Bridgeton Indiana. We are pleased to offer our visitors a pleasant and memorable shopping experience in a clean, neat setting which still retains much of the charm of its earlier days.
If you like ANTIQUES, COLLECTIBLES, HERBS, SPICES & HOT SAUCES, The Mitchell House is the place to come at Covered Bridge Festival. Jaime from "Unique Things" and the Harding Family will be here with lots of great primitives and collectibles. And as an extra treat Les Harding just might be persuaded to do some spinning occasionally. "The Pepper People" will be in the kitchen with their wonderful herbs, spices, and hot sauces. They are so much better than you can find in any store and reasonably priced too. Their many customers come every year to stock up.
A few words about "Harding's Oak Lane Llamas" farm: Les and his wife Ann raise llamas and they enjoy these unique animals very much. So that's the kind of wool Les spins. Winter projects have been a small sampler on a Navajo rug loom and a small piece of linen from thread they had processed all the way from their flax crop to the spinning wheel, just like the early settlers around Bridgeton did.
For the history buffs we have a one-room BRIDGETON MUSEUM which is full of interesting and informative treasures from Bridgeton's past.
The Story of Bridgetonby Marilyn Mitchell Payton (that's me) is for sale at Fred's Place, the Bridgeton 1878 House, and the Bridgeton Mill. Hard Cover is $19.95 and Soft Cover is $13.95. The books are also available by mail, add $4.38 for taxes and shipping for Hard Cover and $3.63 for Soft Cover. For just $2.00 you can take A TOUR OF BRIDGETON, which is the last chapter of the big book.
You won't want to miss Fred's Place, an old Bridgeton building that we rescued from destruction and restored. Be sure to see the "Before" pictures. If you see old Fred out with his hoe, he may be too busy to talk. But you will find me (Marilyn) inside make sure you stop by to say Hi..We have a lot of interesting items, including toys, some well-loved and some homemade. We have scaled down from the "big house" to the "little house." We have a small lot for parking by donation (whatever you want to put in the box). Ed will be there directing the "in" and "out" traffic and watching over things. You can feel safe leaving your vehicle there and it's close to downtown.
We are open for the Covered Bridge Festival Only but for the Yard Sale lovers we will have our yard sale in July although the shop won't be open. Yards sales have been moved from September to July.
Ed and I are dedicated to preserving Bridgeton's past and to providing our customers with quality merchandise and a pleasant shopping experience. We are pleased with our offerings this year at The Mitchell House and Fred's Place. You will find us on West George St. in Midtown Bridgeton, one block west of Main St., #9 & 10 on the map. We are not far off the beaten path but just far enough that you can get away from the crowds and can catch your breath and shop at your leisure. Enjoy the peaceful down-home atmosphere----Bridgeton as it used to be! And you will be greeted with a smile and good old fashioned service. We all look forward to seeing you.
